 About Me |
Eriel Tchekwie Deranger is a Dene woman belonging to the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation of Northern Alberta. Eriel is currently employed with the Rainforest Action Network as the Freedom From Oil Campaigner in Edmonton, Alberta targeting Tar Sands development and the banks that fund it.
Eriel has dedicated herself to advocating for environmental justice for her home community, the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation in Fort Chipewyan, volunteering and working alongside various environmental organizations. Eriel’s professional background includes youth engagement and participation within National and International decision making processes, Treaty and Specific Land Claims research, development of the UN Indigenous Youth Caucus, and various other community based initiatives.
Eriel has received extensive training on Indigenous People in the International System with the International Training Center for Indigenous People in Greenland and through her internship and employment with the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations in the Treaty Rights and Research Programme.
