Over Mij

My name is Andrea Garcia Buitrago, I’m 21 years old, currently studying Law at the Military University in Bogotá/Colombia.

I’m a young volunteer in an organization working on sexual and reproductive rights and health around the country (Profamilia, IPPF Member Association). Additionally, I have taken part of the Colombian Peer Educators Network of Profamilia for 6 years, serving as member of the Steering Committee and I have been involved in the Profamilia’s Board of Directors, as youth representative, for 2 and a half years.

I have been participating in the Latin American and Caribbean youth network for sexual and reproductive rights (REDLAC), representing Profamilia, since 2003. Within the network, I have taken part in different discussion groups.

For the last years I have attended a variety of meetings and conferences related to women and youth rights and sexuality, which have improved my qualifications, skills and knowledge: the Latin-American and Caribbean Caucus for the Infancy and Adolescence rights, held in san Bernardino, Paraguay, April 2001, the training on young women and human rights held in Managua, Nicaragua October - 2003-, the Latin American consortium for the Emergency contraception (CLAE), held in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia February 2004-, the international seminary: GÉNDER, WOMENS AND KNOWLEDGE IN THE LATIN AMERICAN, held in Bogotá, October 2004, and the SYMPOSIA: Achieving the Millennium Development Goals in Latin America and the Caribbean, made in New York city the 20 October 2004.
