About Me

My name is Ana Laura and I am 24 year old Brazilian. At college, I always participated of a youth led initiative to simulate and discuss international issues, specially related to human rights. In 2003, I started working as an intern at a NGO named Brazilian Action for Nutrition and Human Rights with the Brazilian National Rappourteur on the Right to Food, Water, and Rural Land. After that experience, I decided that I would work in the human rights field. To improve my knowledge in the area, I founded and coordinated a students group to study and discuss issues of the international human rights law. In the mean time, I started working at the Brazilian Ministry of Justice with a project against trafficking in human beings, especially women and girls and, afterwards, at UNESCO Field Office in Brazil. In 2005, I was selected to participate of UNFPA Special Youth Program, representing young people of Latin America and Caribbean. As part of the program, I worked with issues related to youth participation, human rights, and sexual and reproductive health and rights of young people for 6 months in UNFPA’s Head Quarters in New York, followed by a three months at UNFPA’s Country Office in Brazil. In 2006, I graduated in International Relations and went to Costa Rica to work at the Inter-American Court of Human Rights as a volunteer. Nowadays, I am working as a youth consultant for UNFPA Country Office of Brazil contributing to cross-cutting activities in the area of youth issues together with a human rights perspective, including issues as cultural diversity, sexual and reproductive health, HIV/Aids prevention, gender and equity.
