Over Mij

I'm an Astronomy student..I'm finishing the degree and I have intentions of taking a Master in Sustainable Development because I feel the urge to take part more actively in the way things run in our Earth.
In fact, my background being Astronomy, and having in mind that our little planet, rotating around this average sized star, one of the 400 billions located in our average sized galaxy, one of the billions of galaxies of the Universe..,makes me extremely conscious that Earth is just a tiny little portion of it all.
However, all the persons are from Earth, all the music I've ever heard, all the flowers that exist, all the books ever written, all the animals.. Almost everything we hear about since we are kids are from this tiny little portion of Space.
When I was a child this made think , so I went to Astronomy with the idea “let's find out more about this reality that overwhelms us in such a way that makes us completely unaware of it in our daily routine.”
But now this strikes me in the opposite direction, I realize this is so unique, so precious. We must protect our Nature, our Cultures, but at the same time development is needed to take people out of poverty, and give everyone the opportunity to a dignified living. The challenge in all this process will be to keep the balance. The balance between preservation of natural resources and economic development, between the safeguarding of the old cultures and the standardization of the knowledge..and many other issues.
It is a great challenge. And I might don’t know yet quite how , but I know for sure that I want to be part of it.
