He is a 28 year old social activist and ex-drug user from Manipur, India. He was a Regional Focal Point for GYCA-South Asia for the term 2007. He has been staying off from drugs since 1999. He graduated from Manipur University. He started working in the field of drug and HIV/AIDS from grassroots level since 1999. He used to work as an Outreach Worker in a harm reduction project suported by Manipur AIDS Control Society. He was also a counselor in care and support project supported by Catholic Relief Serivce (CRS). He had also assisted as a project coordinator in a study on "Exploring the link of sexual behaviour among young female injecting drug user in two district of Manipur".It was supported by Health and Population Innovative,New Delhi through Mac Arthur Foundation.Currently, he is also working as a project coordinator in a harm reduction project supported by AVAHAN (Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation).
He had also travel to Canada to participate in a seven month long International Youth Exchange Program between India and Canada (2001-2002) representating from India as a youth ambassador. In the year 2004 he was selected and awarded scholarship to attend OXFAM International youth parliament at Sydney.In this mega event he made a paper presentation on "Youth and HIV/AIDS in Manipur".Till the end of the year 2006 he was an action partner of IYP2004.Besides, he also traveled to Kobe, Japan to attend 7th ICAAP Youth Forum, 2005 where he present a paper on "Need of Advocacy for effective implementation of harm reduction program among and from IDUs in Manipur".He was the only participant from India who had been selected for 7th ICAAP youth forum.
In 8th ICAAP at Colombo, he made a poster presentation on "OVC infected and affected by HIV/AIDS situation in Manipur" and besides on the sideline of this event he spoke on "Young women and their fight against HIV/AIDS" (India Expereince) at ICAAP youth Pavilion. He had also travel to USA to attend International Symposium on children and HIV/AIDS at Harvard University,Boston on 24th September,2007.On the following day he spoke on children and harm reduction in an interaction program with the students of Harvard University,Boston.
He have also attended different training program and workshop conducted by various organization and funding agency which includes FHI, PCI, CHRN,etc.
He took a significant role in drafting a policy on children affected and infected by HIV/AIDS in the state of Manipur. The proposed draft policy has been submitted to the policy maker for inclusion and discussion on the next review meet of state AIDS policy. If the draft policy is considered than it will be the first in whole of India who endorsed children policy.
He was an abstract reviewer of recently concluded International AIDS Conference 2008 in Mexico and also traveled there to attend this conference with support from UNAIDS.
Being an ex-drug user his future expectation is to work on the dual epidemic of drug and HIV/AIDS and to enhance proficiency in service delivery. Besides working as a project coordinator in a harm reduction project he is also looking after as a Joint Secretary of an Organization exclusively working for the children infected and affected by HIV/AIDS in Manipur.
