About Me

I've been on TIG for awhile now and I think its time to update my profile. So here goes:

I'm currently working with the Federal Ombudsman's Secretariat in Islamabad Pakistan. I'm a training and research officer in the children's complaints office. My office has been set up with reference to article 12 of the UNCRC-to provide children with a voice in matters relating to them. I love my job. While the red tapism and bureucracy can be disheartening I like that my work influences public policy.

I decided to pursue development as a career during my bachelors. I was one of the 25 students chosen from the country for a British Council youth initiative 'Beyond Borders'-that was being implemented in 5 countries: Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, Sri-lanka and the UK. The selected students underwent life skills training and were divided in groups and asked to choose an issue we wanted to work on. My group chose to work on an awareness campaign against dowry. I loved working for the campaign-it was then that I realised that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life!

My campaign went really well and I was asked to join the project the next year as group leader. I have since then worked on many projects.

What about me?

I hate conventions. The older I grow the less I can tolerate conventional and narrowminded people.

I'm a feminist to the core. However, I like men ;)

I love reading. No book is too immature for me. I love re-reading my favourite books from 10 years ago. What can I say? I'm a child at heart.

I write-mostly freelance articles for the papers.

Until two years ago, I never watched TV-never had the time. I have now with the help of my laptop and wireless connection discovered the wonders of sitcoms. I now watch Ugly Betty, Desperate Housewives, Californication and Heroes regularly. I can't watch ABC (not avaiable in Pakistan) but I know the exact airing dates and times of each show and the time the shows are uploaded on the internet. Obsessed much?

I love photography and filmmaking. Although I haven't done much lately (Mental Note to myself: Do something!)

I like old movies.

I love travelling.
