About Me

Ahmet Akarsu is a 27-year-old computer engineer from Nicosia, North Cyprus. Since 1987 he has been playing for several folk dance groups from Cyprus including The State Folk Dance Group of North Cyprus, and has participated many international folk dance and music related events in Turkey, Greece, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Canada, USA and Russia. In February 2002, Ahmet founded a serious e-mail group named World_Folklore, which has now become a bridge among folklore community all around the World. Although his main instrument is violin, Ahmet plays darbuka, ud, accordion and kaval, as well. He has recorded a CD for a folk dance group in Cyprus in which he played all the instruments himself, and upon new demands he is currently recording two more CDs. Ahmet learned playing all of these instruments himself watching and listening to some older musician friends. Consequently he is not a virtuoso of any of these instruments but certainly he is a very good and multi-talented musician. Ahmet also sings as a bass at Cyprus Turkish Philharmonic Choir since 2001 and is also a member of Cyprus Turkish Classical Music Association since 2004. Having taught computer programming and engineering courses at a university and physics and mathematics lessons at a private secondary school, he also has a teaching experience of four years. Ahmet's native language is Turkish. Apart from that, he is fluent in English, and can also understand some German and Slovak.
