About me
Alex is currently working on the Perisic Defence Team at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia in The Hague. He completed his law degree from the University of Victoria, and was called to the BC Bar in 2009 following his articles with Stikeman Elliott in Vancouver.
Alex's work experience includes positions with Amnesty International, TakingITGlobal, and the United Nations and and the United Nations on isues of youth, technology and human rights. In 2005-2006, he was the Online Communications Coordinator for Amnesty International's Instant Karma campaign (formerly Make Some Noise), managing the web content, e-communications and online activism for this Lennon-inspired fundraising venture.
In 2003, Alex worked for TakingITGlobal as the Youth Liaison for the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) . As part of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade's internship program, he was based at the WSIS Executive Secretariat in Geneva, to coordinate the events, workshops, policy negotiations, communications and logistics for the Youth Caucus.
Following his internship, Alex continued to work for TakingITGlobal in Toronto as Multilingual Program Coordinator, spearheading the creation of a French version of TakingITGlobal.org and facilitating the translation in Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese and Chinese.
Alex completed his Bachelor Arts at Augustana University College, majoring in Political Science, Music and Development Studies. His final year of studies was spent living, studying (through Participatory Action Research), and volunteering in Canada World Youth's Rural Development Exchange with Mexico. Living immersed in a rural community in Alberta and in a Mexican village for eight months offered an experiential understanding of sustainable development at the local level.
Alex has worked as a consultant on youth and technology projects with the British Council and the International Center for New Media .
