About Me   About Me
Alex is currently studying Law at the University of Victoria. He will be articling at Stikeman Elliott LLP in September 2008. From February to June 2008, he will be studying international law and human rights at the University of Utrecht on an exchange term.

Alex's work experience at Amnesty International, TakingITGlobal and the United Nations intersects youth, technology and human rights. In 2005-2006, he was the Online Communications Coordinator for Amnesty International's Make Some Noise campaign, managing the web content, e-communications and online activism for this Lennon-inspired fundraising venture.

In 2003, Alex began working for TakingITGlobal as the Youth Liaison for the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). As part of a Foreign Affairs Canada internship, he worked at the WSIS Executive Secretariat in Geneva, Switzerland, to coordinate the events, workshops, policy negotiations, communications and logistics for the Youth Caucus.

Following the WSIS, Alex continued to work for TakingITGlobal in Toronto as Multilingual Program Coordinator, spearheading the creation of a French version of TakingITGlobal.org and facilitating the translation in Spanish, Russian, Arabic, Portuguese and Chinese.

Alex completed his Bachelor Arts at Augustana University College, majoring in Political Science, Music and Development Studies. His final year of studies was spent living, studying (through Participatory Action Research), and volunteering in Canada World Youth's Rural Development Exchange with Mexico. Living immersed in a rural community in Alberta and in a Mexican village for eight months offered an experiential understanding of sustainable development at the local level.

Alex has worked as a consultant on youth and technology projects with the British Council and the International Center for New Media.

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
