About Me   About Me
Why we do what we do: - The purpose of ACRO Ghana is to create conditions for an inclusive society and take care of one another. This is the way we used to live while I was growing up as a young boy in our village. The result was harmony and patriotism. Of course with time passing by, things could not be done the same way; however, we could not deviate from practices that are useful and vehicle good values.
Due to population and poverty increase, we are fleeing from our responsibilities and most often we expect some one else to perform. This has brought disaffection and created tensions between friendly relationships.
Our focus and that of our collaborators is to use sports to highlight the need for us to get involved actively in our community affairs to improve our standard of living and live happily with each other. Subsequently, to help set achievable goals for communities and work hard to reach clear targets, to help the young generation identify to role models likely to reach broad populations among the communities.
Additionally, to use sports as platform to slow down the rapid increase in prisons numbers in our communities by informing them of their civic rights and responsibilities. President John F. Kennedy once said “Ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country. This philosophy ought to be taught to the people to get rid of the colonial mentality of distancing from community which needs their full support to function.
As a kid from rural community where illiteracy is so high, there ought to be some form of intervention to raise the level of human right awareness, both domestically with children and at the official level. The youth need to be trained to take responsibility and be held accountable for their formation as future leaders.
ACRO Ghana studies the use of sports to effect social change in respect to re-offences and Juvenal crime whether, our sports communities in particular, were capable to influence ex-convicts to re-direct their strengths to support themselves and encourage community growth. For example, our sports projects try to capitalize on the people’s passion for football to support other communal projects which would be used as alternatives to imprisonment, punishment in minor civil offences. We believe this could also be a starting point for ex-convicts to better re-integrate society whilst reducing prison numbers.
Notwithstanding what we have mentioned, we operate in areas where illiteracy is high and many parents are pre-occupied with survival issues and the issue of a child and sports is rather not important. Therefore, we must have something attractive in the project to get the parents actively involved. ACRO Ghana as the institution must be proactive and find ways of involving parents. We must see the parents’ attitudes and ideas move towards playing a positive role in what ever their children are doing.
Why we invite you to collaborate with ACRO Ghana: - It is our children who must ultimately inherit us for our communities to survive. They are endowed with energy, creativity and dynamism; and they are society’ most productive human resource with the greatest potential to contribute positively to national development
The current youth are HIV/AIDS threatened generation; ACRO Ghana needs to increase and improve their access to education, sports and recreational activities. Recently, with support of Coaching for Hope, 4 Coaches of ours went to Burkina Faso for a week Youth and HIV/AIDS Training course. In effect, it is the bane of our teaming up with you, to get the needed publicity and support to educate as many youth as possible about the dangers and the fast spreading of the HIV/AIDS menace. We intend to raise the awareness of the dangers of Drug Abuse, Teenage Pregnancy and the hazards associated with HIV/AIDS amongst the young population. Empowerment requires that our young men and young women be assisted to develop their potential to the full, building Life Skills and leadership skills as part of an integrated sport development programme.
See attached News paper reports on HIV/AIDs and falling education standard in rural areas.
Encourage the participation of the youth in decision making processes and matters affecting their communities and to promote equal access of young women and young men to opportunities for development.
We intend to strengthen the role of the youth in peace building, and the building of an effective culture of peace and tolerance particularly, in Northern Ghana where tribal conflicts are rampant.
Your collaboration would undoubtedly support our drive in promoting education both in the formal and informal, as well as functional literacy and training, and to advocate for equal access of the youth to basic and good quality education. To promote equal health development for young women and young men particularly in these difficult times, there would be the need to meet other stakeholders for good practices.
