About Me |
Hola.
I am currently the program coordinator for the Indigenous Peoples Program at the U of S. I recently graduated with two degrees in Biology and Biochemistry/Biotechnology. I have been actively involved within the community for many years in different scopes, from research assistant to politic analyst in the provincial and federal elections to cultural coordinator through FNUC and guest lecturer at SIIT. I currently sit as a Board of Director for SCIC-Saskatchewan and IJM (Indigneous Justice Magazine).
I am an Indigenous Mapuche and relate strongly with many similar problems that Aboriginal groups have in Canada in regards to land, lack of food, housing, jobs and racism. I was born in Chile and exiled to Canada in 1976. My family (parents and brothers) worked through many struggles in Canada but one thing was always very clear, have a strong commitment for family strength and empowerment. It is this attitude (strength in numbers) that I bring with me to meetings, talks and rallies.
Recently I have had a new powerful son to my family which includes my wife, a First Nations women and my beautiful daughter. It is through their smiles and a future for them and for all youth that I am willing to go that extra mile and to mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally encourage other youth to continue to break down racial barriers and obstacles while still engage themselves to strengthen their community.
