I am the 2008 Fall Program Intern at the Global Youth Coalition on HIV/AIDS in New York, NY. I came to New York from Minnesota, where I recently graduated from Macalester College.
I have been interested in public health issues -- especially those regarding reproductive rights and sexual health outreach and education -- since high school. I attended high school in a small town in Pennsylvania where access to reproductive and sexual health resources was limited, and I always wanted to be able to do something about it. But, I ran off to college half-way across the country before I had that chance.
While at Macalester, I took extraordinary classes that increased my interest in reproductive and sexual health issues, and by the time I graduated, I decided to pursue working in the field. That's how I ended up at GYCA, and I'm excited to become even more involved in the field as I develop my skills and expand my network.
Besides interning at GYCA, I am currently getting settled in New York -- and loving it. In my free time, I love hanging out with friends, seeing movies, traveling, and DANCING! I'm half-Brazilian -- my mother was born and raised in Rio de Janeiro -- and I speak Portuguese. I grew up as an ARMY brat, and lived all over the United States.... so traveling and exploring new places and cultures is in my blood!
