About Me |
Christina Wessell is the Communications and Outreach Manager for Youth Service America (YSA), managing key components of an aggressive communications strategy to promote Youth Service America and all its programs. Wessell is also responsible for promoting the significant value of the youth service and service-learning fields to the public by managing the organization's national media outreach and communications campaign. In her role, Wessell supports the communications needs of Youth Service America's extensive network of National Partners and Lead Agencies that make Youth Service America's National Youth Service Day program an annual success. In addition, Wessell is the Editor-In-Chief of Youth Service America's weekly National Service Briefing (Circulation of 33,000), the premier publication for the National Service field.
Wessell brings more than 9 years of experience in the public relations, nonprofit and youth field to advance Youth Service America's mission. Recently relocated from Southern California, Wessell previously worked at a production company as the Director of Marketing & Talent for a television series about racecar drivers for MTV Productions. Prior to that, Wessell served as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer as the Manager of Marketing, Public Relations & Outreach for The Boys & Girls Club of Hollywood. Her charge was to develop community partnerships, and build the marketing and public relations department for the 90-year old organization
Wessell brings a wealth of experience in the youth market to Youth Service America. She launched new products via National Public Relations campaigns for Razor USA, the famous makers of the original scooter. Her success with these campaigns got Razor and its products worldwide attention with media, retailers and the youth market, generating media coverage with almost all national morning shows and TV outlets and national and print outlets. Wessell is passionate about corporate philanthropy and always strived to partner her clients with nonprofit organizations. Securing a sponsorship partnership for Razor USA with Arnold Schwarzenegger's "Arnold's All Stars" organization, was especially meaningful to Wessell, which resulted in Razor donating much needed helmets and safety gear to thousands of youths who did not have the means to purchase helmets for themselves. The helmets could be saving their lives while at play at their school's skate park and/or on Los Angeles' busy streets.
In her career, Wessell has performed successful marketing communications campaigns in Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas for top entertainment and consumer brands, like: Barney and Wishbone, the popular kids' shows on PBS, See's Candies, Nature Made Vitamins, Morton's of Chicago, eatZi's Market & Bakery locations, CheapTickets.com, Space Center Houston (the visitors' center for NASA), Houston Opera and Symphony, and famous musicians.
Wessell is a graduate from the University of Southern California with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History.
