About Me |
Ahmad Wais Wardak, was born in Kabul, Afghanistan and currently a Fulbright scholar at the University of Connecticut in the United States. Wardak is completing a master's degree in International Development from the department of International Studies here at UCONN.
Due to the Soviet invasion, Wais went to school and college in Peshawar, Pakistan while being a refugee there. He first started his career from engaging with a local demining NGO, Organization for Mine clearance and Afghan Rehabilitation, OMAR based in Peshawar. Later, after the collapse of the Taliban regime in 2002, Wardak retuned to Afghanistan and joined the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as a Program Assistant. He was later promoted to Program Officer for Information, Education and Communication (IEC) and advocate for disabled Afghans. Wardak also worked for a bimonthly magazine, The Gorbat. This independent Afghan publication aims to foster political stability, democratic values, and to instill the values of social and political inclusion through articles and other conferences and published materials.
