"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter." ...and I believe every word of that significant quote. There are lots of ignorant people out there who do not recognize the severity of certain global issues - one of the biggest being poverty! Well I'm sorry; I can't tolerate other people's ignorance any more. I need to stand up and fight for what I believe is wrong, and for what I believe needs change, and for what I believe doesn't have a loud enough voice to shake the world. Have you heard this? “The poor will always be with us!” It seems, we choose how much poverty we tolerate. The policies and actions we pursue can either increase or decrease poverty. Lots of international bodies, as diverse as the World Bank and the United Nations concluded that nations can pursue pro-poor growth or growth that bypasses the poor and leaves them further behind. Serving for Amnesty International for four consecutive years I had the chance of attending many conferences concerning the ill treatment of people all over the world. Jailed war victims, tortured anti-governmental activists, raped women, poor workers - you name it - we did our best to reach out to them and help them on a weekly basis. But the hundreds of letters we wrote to demand change were actions that only placed us in the ‘minority folder’ of associations who actually act out and fight for such critical global issues. No matter, I still believe that “Poverty … is neither an inevitable nor a necessary part of human life. It is ultimately a product of human decisions and actions and can therefore be eradicated through human decisions and actions” (Australian Episcopal Conference, 1996) I am currently looking at several projects with TITGlobal!
