Current Board Member of Student Volunteering Scotland (chair and founder), Scottish Youth Parliament and Carnegie Young People Initiative. Also working to set up the UK section of Taking IT Global. Have worked with the United Nations Environmental Program (UNEP) in Geneva, and am a member of the UNEP European Youth Advisory Network. Recently attended the UN World Summit on Information Society (WSIS) as the youth representative on the UK Government's delegation. I am also currently working with the UK Government Foreign and Commonwealth Office on the involvement of more UK young people in UN related activities. See http://www.fcoyouthforum.org.uk. Have undertaken a number of internships, including with the UK Permanent Mission to the UN in Geneva, the International Centre for Criminal Law Reform and Criminal Justice Policy, Vancouver, Canada (while studying at UBC), and Oxfam Scotland. I have worked as a Student Equity Ambassador, Sexual Assault Support Centre volunteer and Peer Counsellor. I am in the process of setting up a UK organisation to bring together men to work to stem male violence against women. In addition, I am currently doing some work with a number of NGOs, including the Scottish Human Rights Centre, Amnesty International (sit on the International Issues Sub-Committee) and have also worked on a number of international development and HIV/AIDS awareness projects in South Africa. I do have a life, however (!), and enjoy playing Percussion with the University Wind Ensemble/Orchestra, learning the Piano again, listening to the radio, reading, re-learning French, visiting museums and galleries etc., meeting with friends for coffee to talk about life (had forgotten how much I enjoy this!) and last, but definitely not least, dancing!
