About Me

I’m 18 years old and am currently on my gap year. I was born in Australia but grew up in England and decided that at least for a year I needed a change of scenery and I found myself back home in Australia. At the moment I live in Broome, north Western Australia, where I’m working with an organisation called the Kimberley Institute. I’ve been given the job of arranging a youth conference in June for 90 Indigenous Kimberley students. The conference is designed to allow the students to form visions for their futures and appreciate that they, as individuals can act now, to manage their social, cultural and environmental concerns to benefit others in the future. The conference will run for three days and involve a number of inspirational and motivational speakers. Talking to the youth, giving them a platform to speak out about their opinions, and then, giving them the leadership positions to be able to put their ideas into physical actions, is a revolutionary approach to solving some of the major issues in this region. Instead of allowing the youth to become complacent and at a loss for what to do in their lives, we are helping to channel their energies and empowering them to make positive changes, not just in a local context, but a global one.
Apart from that I am a strong believer in the Gaia theory. I attempt to be an environmentalist but frequently find myself flying across the world. Last year, in my final year of school, I headed an environmental group that was attempting to work towards making the school 100% ecologically friendly.
I can’t wait to involve myself in the discussions that are taking place on this website and connecting with people that want to make a change for the better.
