He was the first publication under The Soapbox’s Creative Corner(http://www.thesoapbox.fm/category/creative-corner/) with his first published poem “Slick… One from a Contingent of Psychological Hit Men” from his completed compilation of poems entitled Accounts of a Mental Evolution. At the young age of 24 Nikolai has since had two other poems published on the site, “The Truth About the Lies” and “Lust-Filled Travesty”. This book is a summation of all the poems he wrote and collected from the tender age of 14 till the age of 23. Two of his favorite extracts from that book are as follows: A partition of the description of the character Slick: “…he stands here breathing in the fumes of motivation and the air of insubordination but is banished to a life of misery and desolate seclusion, he has furthermore exhausted all resources and allowances along this path and stands here as an emotionally impoverished soul destined for greatness without knowing the path to its achievement.” An extract from The preview: “His conditioning has been conditioned to a condition of thought without action, which leads to the uninhabitable; desensitized; emotionally challenged being that constantly showcases a self unbeknown to the reluctant tenant of the vessel which is him...” The book encapsulates not only his literary skills but it is also a testament to the hidden powers held within ones own mind and the boundless potential that goes along with the realization of that power. There is a very evident undercurrent throughout the book which stipulates that with the will to do, one can achieve beyond what was thought to be possible. As a student he was always at opposing ends with the structures and boundaries of the education system and thus decided to exhibit writings that freely move in and around those structures. He is also the first poet to write for Cape Town Street Mag (http://www.cptstreetmag.co.za/poetry.html) with his debut poem “Definition” and had his debut performance as the first poet ever to perform at The Assembly (Cape Town, South Africa) where he was the opening act.
