My name is Simi and I am the Executive Director of Steps pour Demain, a non for profit organization operating in Nigeria that seeks to bring opportunities for beneficiaries (15- 21 yr olds) to realise and develop a sense of value system which motivates young impressionable minds and helps them to channel their inherent abilities to create a sustainable successful life for themselves. Having just graduated and completed my Masters degree in Peace and Reconciliation Studies from Coventry University, I am very excited to start my career in the NGO/non-profit field, working with young people. I have always been interested in working with young people and travelling with a purpose to meeting new people and learning about other cultures and ways of life. I was lucky enough undertake my Postgraduate studies in England and needless to say my experience abroad definitely helped me realize the importance of different cultures and ways of life and helped me develop an attitude of tolerance. At SPD, we believe every child come into this world with an uncertainty of what the world holds; How beautiful it would be if every child was born with a wonderful smile on their face and this lasted forever, its part of our aims and objectives to make you content with your approach to life by reaching into the depth of their hearts and searching for those mind-numbing problems. We don't stop there, we go much more into helping them solve these problems and make life as peaceful and result oriented as possible for them, we create an avenue for interaction with them where they can tell us their problems, which can range from educational, emotional, and otherwise. We make these issues our responsibility and seek to help them find a lasting solution. Personally, I understand that adolescence is a time when many kids take great risks with their life and their health—risks that can have lifelong consequences. This is why we have devoted much of our time to working with teenagers and young adults to reduce the threats to their future, their health, and to empower them with necessary skills and access to support and services that can help them build a promising future. By working with children who have been ignored or discounted by much of society, we strive to make a dramatic and constructive difference in the lives of a great many teens and young adults. ‘Time is free, but it's priceless. You can't own it, but you can use it. You can't keep it, but you can send it. Once you've lost it, you can never get it back.’
