March 26, 2008:

Born December 26, 1985 in Toronto, Canada, Stephanie is the daughter of Italian-Canadian, Anna-Marie Gobbo and Croatian-born, Branko Vanic. She has a fraternal-twin sister Alysia, and an older brother, Michael. Stephanie currently attends Wilfrid Laurier University and after 4 years, has recently parted ways from Rotondo & Associates Inc. Consulting and Management, an accounting firm in Toronto. She is currently focusing on long-term career goals with either non-governmental organizations, or international organizations, and has a keen interest in the International Criminal Court.

While growing up in a metropolis, Stephanie learned and experienced the Sociological Imagination (C. Wright Mills, 1959) first hand. From a young age, Stephanie found herself interested in social justice and civil rights issues. She began to develop her leadership and management skills while attending army cadets for 3 years during secondary school, and carried out various leadership roles thereafter in her community.

While pursuing a 4-year Honours Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology, Stephanie has studied under some of the nations top criminologists. Her second major in contemporary studies has allowed Stephanie to intricately and critically analyse current global issues. During her senior year, Stephanie embarked on a minor in Human Rights and Civil Liberties. This is where she currently applies her argumentative reasoning skills and criminological acumen to current and historical human rights atrocities. Stephanie exercises her advocacy skills in the Judicial Affairs Council of Wilfrid Laurier University, where she serves as a Counselor. She is also the Campus Director/President of the STAND (Students Taking Action Now: Darfur) Canada, Wilfrid Laurier University chapter.

Stephanie's three principle inspirations are Robert F. Kennedy, Nelson Mandela, and Martin Luther King, Jr. Their journeys resonate through her passion for the pursuit of justice and equality. As an aspiring IO/NGO leader, Stephanie is especially interested in human rights and fair (not free) trade. Her current interests include restorative justice; the rehabilitation of former child soldiers; individual rights versus collective rights in North America; Canadian First Nations land claims disputes; the impact of the Suncor and Syncrude oil developments in the Peace-Athabasca Delta area in Alberta, Canada; and the benefits & weaknesses of social economies.

When Stephanie is not in school or working, she enjoys being an eco-tourist, food & wine pairing, mountain biking, playing tennis, visiting friends and relatives (especially her maternal grandparents Liliana and Isidoro), and reading poetry.
