About Me |
In the last decade, several disasters hit the humanity. We just have to think of the 2004 Indian Ocean Earthquake which killed more than 220 000 innocent people. This catastrophe is one of the most horrible of the entire world history. Why? Because it put, in the flooded streets, more than 2 million of humans without pure water and food. More dramatic, there was a high level of epidemic risk due to the high population density and the tropical climate. At the end, the economic situation was another issue to repair. Another example of disaster is the Hurricane Katrina which hit New Orleans in 2005. That’s one of the deadliest and strongest in the United States history. At least 1,800 died and the damages were estimated at 100 billion dollars. To conclude this decade’s catastrophes tour, the last one and not the smallest, is the 2010 Haiti earthquake. A total destruction scenario: 230 000 dead people, 300 000 injured and one million homeless! In all of these terrible catastrophes, victims needed really fast help.
Consequently, it’s primordial that the other countries come and bring quick aid! In those cases, the countries touched by these disasters need mostly: security support, healthcare, money, fresh water and food. First of all, humanitarian help has to rescue the survivors and give them healthcare. Secondly, they have to bring security in this population to avoid other problems. After all, they have to make sure no epidemic will result of a bad hygiene situation. Finally, these humans need water and food to be able to continue the reconstruction of the country.
These primordial aids are necessary to prevent these disasters to have worst consequences. So, this is why organizations like ‘’Doctors Without Borders’’ are essential in these cases. Why? Because these doctors are in the first to be in operation on the ground. They bring an essential help at a crucial moment! Other organizations bring, for sure, important help like the United Nations. Security is above all assured by them! Finally, thousand of other, political or not, organizations help the victims to pass through these extremely difficult events and to rebuild their cities to have a normal life again. That’s why we have to make sure that when disasters like these happen, that all the help organizations are ready and have all the resources they need to be effective!
