In 2007 I traveled to Thailand with 20 likeminded Canadian youth to attend the Third Conference on Gross National Happiness. I spent a month traveling and studying development issues in Thailand. I completed my secondary education last june, and am currently making the most of my Gap Year. I have been volunteering with local non-proffits, educating youth on environmental issues, and preparing for international travel; I have been accepted to Youth Challenge International's Ethiopia Program, and in February 2009 I will travel to rural Ethiopia to do social work for two months, primarily focusing on HIV/AIDS education. (http://yci.org/) After my Gap Year, I fully intend to follow my passion for environmental sustainability and social justice, by pursuing a career in environmental engineering, and applying it internationally in lesser developed nations.
