I'm just your average joe living one day at a time. My given name is Rodolfo, but going by Roo just makes my life a helluvalot easier.
I'm currently majoring in the field of journalism at Humber College. Whether it'll become my career of choice in the future still remains to be seen. I love the power of knowledge, and the power to inform. Journalism certainly has qualities of both. The most successful journalists, I feel, are the ones who tell stories so compelling, they not only change the way people think but also the way they understand the world around them. Only then can people open up to new ideas and shed the old ways of closed-mindedness or bigotry, racism, and prejudice that's really the root of all that's wrong in the world today. Something as simple as free speech and the press are still banned in certain areas of the world, and journalists suffer elsewhere informing us of the truth. Doesn't that speak volumes of just how powerful information is?
If you've spoken to me, then you might already know that I am also a competitive figure skater. I've been involved with the sport for the last 13 years, with the last 6 as a member of the provincial team. This has given me the opportunity to travel everywhere and meet some pretty incredible people. Some people view it as a sport or a hobby ... it's a lil more than that. I step on the ice, and it just feels right. It's exactly where I belong. I can be myself. I can let go and simply be. That's why it's important for everyone to have something like that in their life, whether it be athletics, art, music, anything that they can be a part of, participate, or get involved in ... because it gives back. It makes you a better person, and in turn, helps you make the world a better place. When my competitive days are over, I plan to be involved with the coaching aspect of the sport. I definitely want to give back and offer my experiences and expertise to the next crop of skaters who want to be the next Michelle Kwan or the next Kurt Browning. Whether they get there or not is not important, because it's the journey that counts. And if I can help guide them in the right direction with the right tools to be all they can be on the ice, then I'll have achieved my dream.
In my free time, I love to hang out with my friends *who doesn't?* and simply laugh and have a good time. I also love movies so I'm always talking someone into going to the theatre with me ... and I love to travel ... just basically be outside.
As far as musical tastes go, I'll listen to just about anything. A few faves are: Sarah Brightman, Enigma, Josh Groban, Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Slean, Eva Cassidy, Rufus Wainright, Mama Cass, Itzhak Perlman, Secret Garden, anything retro 80's-ish .... and the list goes on.
I love people who have amazing energy. We're only on the planet for a short time so we really have to LIVE it. Feel free to say hello, or drop me a note. I love meeting new people. We'll have a few laughs! :)
