I am leaving Uganda in September 2007. Read all about this here. Background: By education I'm a teacher of English and Art (1997), and I also did an addional, short year at the Theory of Education at the University of Copenhagen (2000). At the end of the 90ties I engaged in peace building and inter-cultural exchange in ex-Yugoslavia. I was employed by the Danish Association for International Cooperation (MS) (1999), and all together I have spend five years working for MS in Denmark, primarily as a organisational coordinator for the membership association. In between I have had several other engagements in the Balkans; I took part in the making of the campaign Next Stop Serbia (1999-2001) and later in the South East European Youth Network (1999-2002). I haven't stuck to one thing only, and my areas of work experience and competences are scattered around education, training, facilitation, capacity-builiding, advocacy, lobby, fundraising, campaigning, inter-cultural exchange, electronical communication, information work and photography. What I like: Travelling is my favorite occupation and seems to be a prerequisite for all the other things I like; Meeting people, visiting friends, writing, photography, long-distance-driving, loud music...I prefer big cities, but not the streamlined sorts - not the kinds where the trains depart according to the scedule, where people wait for green light, or where you spent time in aircontioned shopping malls or museums, or where there is a certain dress code. I prefer unpredicability and chaos, where dust, asphalt and diesel mix with sweat, food and music. Where people come up close and try to make conversation with strangers. Where anything can happen, where it often doesn't happen according to the plan, and where alternative solutions always are possible. Hence, Africa has got a big space in my heart, and I am far from finished moving around on the continent. So far I have made it to Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Zimbabwe, Sydafrika og Swaziland. Besides Africa I have lived, worked and travelled in the Balkans, on and off, since 1997. I have crossed most of ex-Yugoslavia, and I keep returning. Belgrade is my absolute favorite, nothing better when afternoons turn into evenings on the River Sava.
