 About Me |
Ms Poonam Ahluwalia is the Founder and the President of Youth Employment Systems (YES) Inc, a non-profit international development organization based at Cambridge College, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
She helped organize the first Global Youth Employment Summit in Alexandria, Egypt in 2002. Over 2000 delegates from 120 countries launched a decade campaign of action to build capacity of youth and other stakeholders to understand poverty eradication strategies, build partnerships and programs for youth employment. YES works on leadership development, building social entrepreneurship, job skills development, entrepreneurship development through access to resources, including business development services, access to credit, mentoring and coaching and linkages with markets - all needed to build productive, decent, and sustainable livelihoods. She has spearheaded the organization of three global YES Summits (2002 Alexandria, 2004 Mexico, and 2006 Kenya), and two YES Regional Summits (2003 Hyderabad, 2005 Paraguay). The Campaign is present in over 60 countries through youth-led YES Networks that build national coalitions for action. Since 2002 over 400 programs have been locally initiated and managed by the YES Networks. In fact every alternate day it seems there a YES event somewhere in the world.
She has a Masters in Mass Communications from Boston University, Boston, MA. and a Masters in Political Science from Rajasthan University, Jaipur, India.
