About me
I am a student at the University of Alberta, in the city of Edmonton, in Alberta, Canada. I am studying political science (international relations), and Middle Eastern and African Studies.
My main social activism focuses are human rights, women's rights, and HIV/AIDS activism.
I am involved with many groups and organizations including Canada World Youth, Students' International Health Association, John Humphrey Centre for Peace and Human Rights, Journalists for Human Rights, and Change for Children, along with some local city organizations.
I am very interested in independent media as well, and volunteer and co-host a show on CJSR FM, the campus and community radio station in Edmonton.
I am from South America (Guyana), and I have traveled to a few countries worldwide. Most recently, I lived in Kenya in 2006-2007. I am going to Tanzania in May 2008 for three months.
I am very interested in African culture and languages, and am learning Kiswahili. If anyone out there wants to chat with me in Kiswahili, that would be great!
For fun I like to go for bike rides, go to the mountains, play or listen to music, read books, or go to music concerts. I really like reggae, folk, and punk rock. If you have any music suggestions, please tell me!
