I worked as the student assistant with the university HIV and AIDS Unit of the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University. I was in charge of designing, developing, coordinating and implementing Peer Education and HIV and AIDS activities for the students, staff and the surrounding communities For the past four years I have been working with The Jesuit AIDS Project (JAP) Zimbabwe a christian based organisation with interest in young people and their reproductiv health. At JAP I worked as the communications officer in charge of all public relations issues and all the IEC ( Information Education and Communications) materials. I was assistant editor and compiler of the monthly Peer Educators Newsletter. During my four years at JAP I was involved in training of Peer Educators ( students from difference secondary schools, Parishes and orphanages) in Harare and It peri-urban centres. I helped in the setting up of Youth Against AIDS or best known as YAA clubs in Harare. I assisted in maintaining these clubs functional by conducting weekly support visits and participating in their discussions and offer my expertise. Due to this I fell in love with youth hence I was thrilled to hunt for a qualification in this field. As originally from Burundi, I have lived in 7 countries in Africa where I worked in HIV and AIDS programmes at an early age when I was 18. I speak 7 African languages include French and English. To this regard I have acquired an tremendous experience woriking in an environment cross-culturally. This has made me understand the language of HIV and AIDS in many African conutries' contexts plus the interpretations and fear related to it in these countries. As the time goes by, I have come to realise that I cannot spend a day without talking of HIV to friends and other people around me. With the HIV and AIDS Centre at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University, I have trained Peer Educators in Interactive Theatre a new model of addessing HIV related Issues using images and drama. I have also co-designed a module on Intimacy with Prof Hillman Sandra inorder to bridge the gap that exists between Knowledge and practice. I have been involved in up toy libraries for the most disadvantaged children in Townships in Port Elizabeth South Africa. I am currently the Vice president of the most prestigeous society The Golden Key International Honour Society Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Chapter 2008-2009. I was also the Community Service Officer of the same society. I recently assisted a rural youth organisation in Uvira DRCongo to secure Euro 7,000 for its ICT and agriculture programme.
