About Me |
I am Medical Laboratory Science major and Anthropology/Sociology minor. Through my studies in science, I believe that structure = function. I feel that by understanding the structure of a society, you can determine how one functions in that society.
In the United States, African American women only make up about 12% of the female population, but they account for 66% of new HIV infections. What is going on??
By identifying and understanding these differences I feel that we can eliminate the many health disparities present in the United States and around the world.
In the future I hope to go to graduate school for a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Epidemiology, and then later go on to medical school so I can become a medical epidemiologist.
I am particularly interested in addressing health disparities in different sociological populations. Presently I am working with the Council on Aging in Mattapoisett to make health information more accessible to the elderly. Also I have brought some health related workshops to the center that help the seniors better manage their medications and gain a better understanding of their health problems. I also volunteer with the Aids Acton Committee in Boston.
