Heaven and earth agrees that youth of any nation of all ages are the future leaders upon whom the destiny of such nation rests, alas, Nigerian youths are disillusioned, desecrated, disempowered, despondent and ill-motivated, to fulfill this sacred, responsibilities of being the future leaders. We of the Nigerian Youth Reformers (NYR, agents of change) have reasoned that it would be atrophied to continue to walk in self-pity by organizing on the pitiable and unpleasant situation the youths of this country found themselves, but to chart a proactive course via which the trapped and enmeshed youths could be liberated from crutches of deprivation, poverty, illiteracy, vices and other negative encumbrances. We consider this as a generational task and challenge that must be accomplished if our society must attain the must vaunted development, indeed the Greek philosopher, SOCRATES once opined that “man would have build in vain, if we continue to build skyscrapers, mansions and duplexes without building the mind, we would have consequently built the society”. It is our collective responsibility to the society to help the disempowered and marginalized youths to overcome their limitation by becoming responsible citizen of this great nation. It is within the purview of our organization to facilitate easy access to education for the youths, to empower them through vocational training programmes, provision of adult education and extra moral classes for young school leavers, visits and counselling programmes for street urchins and charity homes where we have donated several thousands of Naira worth basic needs materials. One of the most pivotal projects of our body is the Information and Communication Technological (ICT) knowledge acquisition for the youths. Presently, we have about five hundred (500) enrolled students in Lagos State. OUR MISSION Our projections are targeted at building a crime-free nation and helping the youths attain self-employment potentials, achieving unlimited greatness in their endeavor by taking the bull by the horn. Since the emergence of the organization, it has fought tirelessly to add values to the lives of the Nigerian youths. In 2003, we organize a programme tagged Campaign Against Self Destruction (CASD), which was championed by our Lagos state chapter. Till date NYR has not yet stopped the crusade. Every week we lecture youths in our study centers spread across Lagos and other states on different issues, which include drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, and other human development topics. However, NYR participated in the just concluded census by giving assistance to the National Population Commission and Lagos State Government in their efforts at reaching teaming population of Lagos State. We were involved with other youth association in the census sensitization and awareness campaign and distribution of census posters and publicity materials to all the higher institution of learning within Lagos metropolis. Recently, NYR graduated one hundred (100) beneficiaries of the Free Computer Trainig Programme. More students will be graduating in Septembert 2006.
