About Me

Working with youth is my responsibility at Friends of AIDS Support Trust (FAST) here in Nsanje. Since 2007 I have been working with youths in the following ways: supervise and provide technical skills to youths clubs in the catchment area of FAST as an organization. Conducting awareness campaigns as one way of advocating for the modification of other harmful cultural practices which promote the spread of HIV and AIDS in the community. I have been attending youth conferences organized by different stakeholders in the country so as one way of boosting my knowledge on how to work with youths in the community.
During this time I have managed to facilitate the formation of 18 AIDS Toto Clubs in 18 different primary schools.

I am also a member of Youth Friendly Health Service Committee in the district, this is where concerns of youth on sexual reproductive health issues are discussed. I have been facilitating youth clubs on how to use condoms effectively, since it has been noticed that most youths catch the virus through unprotected sex.

I have been reading youth’s clubs by organizing HTC awareness campaigns; this is where mobile HTC services are provided. Youths clubs attends these meetings so that they can provide HIV/AIDS messages and encourage people to test their blood through dramas, comedies and choirs. IEC materials are also distributed during this time so as one way disseminating HIV/AIDS messages.

I have been attending Sexual Reproductive Heath lesson meetings organised by the district hospital where youths meet and share experiences and learn sexual reproductive health issues.

I also link youth clubs to local money lending institutions so as to empower youth economically. This programme helps youth to be active and become self-reliant despite unemployment problems. It is also my responsibility to link these youths clubs to other relevant resource providers hence building their capacity and decision making skills.
