About me
Mwansa Charity Njelesani was born in Zambia, and has since lived and travelled extensively in Africa, Europe and Central America, fuelling her passion for international development and other cultures.
She has researched, published and made presentations on the impact of HIV/AIDS on different sectors of African society. She wrote and edited a publication called “HIV/AIDS in Perspective: Provoking Hope," aimed at the average Canadian as a way of sensitizing them on global HIV/AIDS issues. She recently completed her Master’s at the Norman Paterson School of International Affairs. Her Master’s research (with fieldwork in Zambia) focused on the capacity development needs of youth focussed HIV/AIDS NGOs in Lusaka.
As a youth leader, she has experience in youth-related development programming and advocacy, in her roles as Chair of the Youth Advisory Committee for the Canadian Catholic Organization for
Development and Peace, as Member of International Advisory Committee African and Caribbean Population and as chair of the XVI Toronto International AIDS Conference youth programme, youth advisory committee.
She was the former president of the Dalhousie International Student Association and Vice-President of the Dalhousie African Student’s Association where she initiated the first-ever HIV/AIDS awareness campaign that targeted 3 maritime University campuses.
Mwansa was the HIV/AIDS Program Coordinator for TakingITGlobal, where she worked on a number of different projects, including AIDS: Picture Change, TIG Xpress, and with the Toronto Youth Force/AIDS 2006 Youth Secretariat to ensure the meaningful participation of Youth at the XVI International AIDS conference in Toronto.
Mwansa returned to Zambia, and worked/ supported a number of youth organizations, namely Youth Vision Zambia and the Zambia National Youth Network on Population and Development.
