In the four years, I spent immersed in the work to increase awareness of Aboriginal HIV/AIDS and its related issues in Canada, I gained not only valuable experience but also met some really amazing people. After serious consideration, I decided it was time for me to expand my work to addressing the broader health concerns of Canada’s First Nations, Inuit and Metis. Additionally, I wanted to focus more attention on women’s issues, the environment and wellness in general. Accepting a position as the Communications Officer for the Communications and Research Unit of the National Aboriginal Health Organization has allowed me to work towards implementing the organization’s communications strategy, including writing and editing public information materials and carrying out media relations strategies for the National Aboriginal Health Organization (NAHO). Some of the portfolio’s I have had an opportunity to work on so far include: •Exploring Community-Based Responses to Resource Extractive Development in Northern Canada. •Midwifery and Maternal Care. •National Aboriginal Role Model Program. •Healthy Living. •Journal of Aboriginal Health with a specific focus on Aboriginal Women’s Health.
