 About Me |
Lisa Gurthie has a bachelor’s degree from Tulane University and a Master of Arts in Education from Brown University. She has been a passionate advocate for her students for over 20 years, teaching in schools that range from public, private, and parochial to boarding school, community college and the army. She has received grants from the NEH, NHC and Charlotte World Affairs Council. She has been a local speaker, conference presenter, and teacher of the year semi-finalist. Ms. Gurthie believes education should not exist at a remove from “real” life. Her primary goal is to create life long learners who realize the joy in and connectedness of all knowledge. Toward that end, she strives to teach lessons that integrate student voice and choice and that prioritize student motivation, buy-in, and tie-in. Her interests include the technological revolution (especially as it intersects with education), sociology, psychology, culture, travel, reading, analyzing, and accessorizing! According to one personality type test, she loves all types of people and hates all sense-defying bureaucracy. That about sums it up.
