About Me   About Me
My mother (RIP) always reminded me that ‘charity begins at home.’ When the day is far spent, this one question lingers on in my mind: “Found The Answer?” When I came to Canada from Uganda, my life changed completely! I came because I was ‘fortunate,’ not quite special, but truly one in a million. I came because I was loved. I believe I came because … well, GOD planned it so!

Yet constantly I’m reminded of my ill-fated past in the place I call home. Home is where my brothers and sisters can’t go to school because they can’t afford it, or because they’re starving. Home is where AIDS is as common as the common cold. Home is where father and child, and mother and sister and family have been to war, fought in the war and still remember the war. Home is where the mother’s greatest possession is her undying love for her child, but her greatest weakness is her inability to help her needy child.

Home is where I have developed a passionate anger – a frustration at how children will starve, women are raped, men are murdered and families are humiliated … but still, people will do NOTHING.

Thankfully this anger has been transformed into such a desire within my heart for change. Change in the way people look at things – in the way they respond - in the way people look at others. Humanity is all we have in common, because … it’s all we have. We ought, therefore, as a human obligation, to protect it with all the passion, zeal and determination we can muster within us. But this can only happen if we choose to. Yes, choice is the determining factor to success. Let us choose to defend our humanity, to love it! The transformation of my character into who I am today is owed to my past. I feel in my heart a desire that cannot be quenched by anything, a passion that cannot compare to any attributes: a passion for children, a desire to help children!

Children are the greatest, most tender possessions we have, and yet we tend to be apathetic to the plight of the little children around the world. It is saddening. It is unacceptable. It is inhumane!

My mother was right to say that ‘charity begins at home,’ because the inner substance of my heart is my home. So if charity begins at home, then from the conviction of my heart, I choose to defend humanity against – well, other humans who would rather defile it. I choose to help the little children have a fair chance at having a future. And thus I’ll keep searching and looking around for clues. I’ll walk the miles if I have to, or go without food if need be. I’ll make the noise if required, or travel the world, even if I have to give it all up. But I can’t do this on my own – we have the world to challenge. Let’s join arms, and by the common bond of our claim to humanity let us defend the children of this world! So until something comes up – anything that will raise a glimmer of hope for the little children around the world, let us continue to ask each other this: “Found The Answer?” if we haven’t, then let’s continue on with our human task.
