Erastus B. Mong’are is the President of the Delaware Kenyan Association (DEKA), board member of Public Allies, Delaware, Social Mobilization Progress, founder and past-President of the Delaware African Students Association (DASA) at the University of Delaware, and, a Student Enrichment Coordinator/Instructor at Delaware Technical and Community College in Wilmington, DE, and consultant Executive Director for the Inter-Cultural Education Network of Delaware (IN-DEL).
He was born in Kenya where he stayed until immigrating to the United States to attend the University of Delaware where he earned his degree in International Relations and Sociology. He entered and has remained active in public service for over nine years, and has given back to the community in several ways.
As President of the Delaware African Students Association (DASA), he led and organized various events including a forum with three panelists on "the Media and Africa", and a successful fundraising for HIV/AIDS orphans at Nyumbani Children in Kenya.
In 2004, he organized the first ever country-based team for the Delaware AIDS Walk as part of a Toastmasters International’s High Performance Leadership project, where he also serves as a Division Governor. He is using his community organizing skills from Public Allies and the communication and leadership skills from Toastmasters International to educate, empower and uplift the lives of the needy, in addition to making DEKA the most effective African-based grassroots organization.
