The "International Student Movement" is a platform used by groups and activists around the world struggling against the increasing privatisation of education and for free and emancipatory education to exchange information, network and co-ordinate protests together. The platform is independent from any political parties, unions or other institutions. It is dominated by grassroots groups/movements and generally open to everyone [students, pupils, teachers, parents, workers,...]. There are regular global chat meetings, various online forums and a mailing list with more than 1100 contacts worldwide. The forces pushing for the privatisation of public education [unleashed by global competition] - just like the commercialisation of every other aspect of life - are located on the global level. To effectively counter this development groups struggling for free and emancipatory education need to unite internationally and globally. After the "International Day of Action against the Commercialization of Education" [05/11/2008], the "Reclaim your Education - Global Week of Action" [20 - 29/04/2009] and the "Education is NOT for $A£€ - Global Week of Action" activists in various regions of the world agreed to call for the "Global Wave of Action for Education" to take place this autumn (October/November 2010). Details on the "global wave" are available here: http://emancipating-education-for-all.org/idea_global_wave_action Questions and suggestions can always be send to: united.for.education[at]gmail.com ~ one world - one struggle ~
