About Me |
I was born on the 27th/10/1979 just two minutes past mid-night in Kotido town, Karamoja, found in the north eastern part of Uganda. I`m a second born in a family of three children (the younger brother died), and my elder brother who is 26 years old lives in a town called Lira in the northern part of Uganda. I am a human rights activist with keen interest on the involvement of women, youth and indigenous people in decision making especially when dealing with issues that will affect their lives. I`m the Coordinator/Founder of Tedwii Indigenous Women Development Organisation (TIDO). Tedwii is an indigenous word which means, BE INNOVATIVE AND CREATIVE. TIDO is operating in the Karamoja region found in the north eastern part of Uganda. I founded TIDO in 2002 after getting the opportunity to participate in a number of youth and women programs outside my community. I felt being involved was not enough without being involved practically within my community where young people have very little opportunity to participate in development processes both at national and international levels. I founded TIDO with an aim of empowering the youth and young women living in the north eastern part of Uganda to become active partners in development processes. At the moment, TIDO is in the processes of setting up a resource centre in the region to provide easy access to information for the youth and women which is one of the biggest challenge in the region. I`m also an Action Partner of the African Youth Parliament and the International Youth Parliament. At the moment, I`m also working for the Minority Rights Group (www.minorityrights.org) as Africa Project Officer in the Kampala-based office. I am also a committee member on Gender desk for "Food Rights Network-Eastern Uganda (FORINET-EU)". I like sharing views and experiences, one of the reason I`m joining TIG.
Learning and trying out new things, is one of my hobbies.
