Hello friends,

My name is Amber Maynard and I'm from Peterborough, ON. Over the past couple years I have been attending high school and volunteering for various organizations such as KWIC - Kawartha World Issues Center (based in Trent University), United Way, school events and more. I was volunteering with Jamaican Self-Help which eventually landed me a coop placement in the office. I also am apart of their youth committees: the South North Youth Policy Project and the Make Poverty History Youth Action Team. In March 2009 I went on their Awareness trip to Kingston Jamaica; where I learned a great deal about myself, my country, and a land of many stories. Working with inner-city Kingston orphans gave me a great deal of perspective about work in the field-and I'm itching to get back there! I work at Stewart Homes (a residential group home for children with disabilities) and am attending the University of Ottawa this Fall for the International Development & Globalization Program. I don't know what to expect from the future, but I can't wait for new challenges.
