 About Me |
I am Mandakini Behera, a 22-year-old woman coming from Orissa, India. In 2006, I joined the Utkal Network for People Living with HIV (UNP+), an organization based in Cuttack from which’s services I could benefit when I was tested positive. The variety of its programs allows me to reach a great number of people, including youth. Utkal Sevak Samaj, an UNP+-associated organization, gave me the tools to become an articulated speaker – leadership trainings, communication workshops, and contacts with social figures – and I am now using my personal experience to promote positive living amongst PLHIV and the development of an enabling and stigma-free environment for us. Since 2007, I am the head of the UNP+. In addition to the network management, I interact with different populations including college youth as an outreach worker. Moreover, I dedicate some time and energy to a drop-in center for PLHIV. I am interested and committed to work with the youth population since these individuals will be tomorrow’s agents of change and leading figures. I also do it for my son. These young adults are on the verge of diving in a world where the best is yet to come.
