About Me   About Me
Hi! My name is Lucy and I am an Australian who is passionate about the plight of the orangutans. I have just graduated from the University of Sydney with a combined degree in Arts and Media and Communications, and a triple major in History, Media and Italian.

I currently work part-time as a contributor for the Australian edition of The Week Magazine, which is a news magazine. I also work as a tour guide for Bounce Walking Tours. I take groups of tourists and foreigners on historical walking tours of Sydney.

I love travel and adventure, and have been interested in other cultures and ways of life for as long as I could remember. In fact, I decided to do my degree because I wanted to travel the world as journalist, and raise awareness about important environmental and social issues in all corners of the globe. This interest in travel has inspired me to embark on three overseas exchange programs over the years.

When I was 16, I went by myself to a small town in Italy for a three month exchange program. I lived with a local family and attended a tiny local school. I knew no Italian when I arrived, but I learnt quickly. It was a wonderful experience that inspired me to go abroad again.

When I was 18, I embarked on a year-long leadership program in Israel. It was a jam-packed year in a fascinating area of the world. I learnt about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, developed leadership skills, planted trees, lived with a Palestinian family for a week, helped run a camp for local teens in which I facilitated discussions between Israeli and Palestinian kids and teens, volunteered in a disabled school and a hospital, and lived and worked on a Kibbutz in the middle of the desert. What a year it was!

I decided to go abroad again just last year to study at the University of California, Berkeley. I studied history and anthropology. I lived in a local student cooperaive with 30 other students. I spent my time learning, traveling, and exploring. It was fantastic!

I'm hoping that my next adventure will be going to Borneo for DeforestAction.I have been passionate about the plight of the orangutans for many years, and would be thrilled to be part of this brilliant project. Check out my clip to hear more about why I would love to go, and what I have done in the past that has equipped me to be an Action Agent!
