About me
My name is Olivia and I was born and raised in Zurich, Switzerland. At 14 I changed from Swiss public school to an international english speaking school where I graduated at the age of 17. I took a year off in order to volunteer and filled a position in Mexico in the English department at a local school. I spent 6 months there, living with a host family.
It was Mexico that sparked my interest in development issues. I had always been very interested in politics and history, but experiencing Mexico also raised numerous questions. I became sensitive to development issues by simply asking myself why there was such widespread poverty, amongst plenty of other questions. In retrospect I can say that Mexico was the single most important experience which led me to pursue a degree in Development.
After Mexico I moved to Canada to attend University. I just completed my degree in International Development at York University. Currently, in order to gain experience in the field I have decided to stay in Canada and work for TakingITGlobal. In the future, I hope to apply myself in different development projects around the world and ultimately pursue a career in diplomacy for the Swiss Foreign Ministry.
