I may only be 18 years old, but I honestly believe that I have lived long enough to figure out what the word "regret" really means. I'm talking about both my personal and "professional" (or call it impersonal/societal) lives. I believe that human beings tend to forget as quick as they have learned. That's why I'm telling you : think before you act. Otherwise, one day or another, you'll inevitably regret your decisions. And, regret, some people must know it, hurts a lot. Human being always need to be reminded of his task or else, he forgets it and acts before he thinks. Let us carry ourselves in another time : Since we are toddlers, we've been told to recycle, to conserve water and electricity and we've been asked to take necessary responsibilities to maintain the environmental balance. As agreed, the youth took this burden as his own...but what would happen if those authoritarian heads stopped reminding us (I'm including myself as a part of the youth) of our duty? We would easily forget that an environmental issue depends on us and then, the world would assist to the rise of a new deviance. Some people would totally stop being vigilant and would waste resources unnecessarily. Then, this messy attitude would slowly lead our planet to its "end". Or at least, to fierce natural disasters. As a more personal example, I'll talk about my past (not to deeply though). I used to have a friend to whom I spoke a lot. In fact, I had what some people call a best friend. And as time went by, we gradually stopped talking to each other because, and that's only my theory, we took our friendship for granted. We slowly stopped spending time together and tensions grew more and more between us. Unfortunately, unlike my other example, there was nobody to remind me of how much my friend meant to me and how arduous my life would be without him. In a grey night of September, I went at my friend's house with only one intention : to confront him...This is how I ruined what was left of our friendship. By the way, since this cold night, and everytime I wake up, I have this deep wound whose burning me from head to toes. I call it regret. Nowadays, I often see him at school, and both of us look away when our paths cross... My advice? Always, and always, keep your memories fresh, both in your head (brain) and in your heart. When you can't remember who your friends are, what you can do to live a better life, you find yourself in a pitiful position, in a dead-end. Write what you have done, what you have felt. Write your own history, and then, read it until it's carved somewhere in your mind. This will save you from this burning cut. Memory is the key, the cure, the solution. After all, think about it, memory has been the "savior" of many.
