About Me |
National Youth Council of Latvia (LJP) is association of non-governmental youth organisations of Latvia. Currently LJP unites 36 member organisations and associated organisations. LJP was founded in 1992. The aim of LJP is to promote the civil society, increase the quality of life of youth and provide the continuation of democratic values at the country.
LJP ensures youth organisations with information about activities in Latvia as well as abroad. LJP organises the training seminars for members of organisations to increase the capacity within the organisation. LJP represents the interests of youth at national and at international level.
The decision making body of LJP is board what consists of 7 members from member organisations. The board decides the strategy of LJP. There are three employees at the bureau, working with administration. Besides the staff there are volunteers who have responsibilities on concrete issue.
Member organisations represents wide circle of different interests, like youth and children organisations, scouts and guides, 4H, as well as health promoting organisations “Papardes zieds”, “Red Cross”, “Youth against AIDS”, religious organisations, sport organisations, minority organisations and political youth clubs. The activities mostly are based on peer-education.
Since 1997 LJP is member of The European Youth Forum with rights to give opinion of young people of Latvia in Council of Europe, European Union and United Nations.
Since 1994. LJP is partner in network of Baltic Youth Forum.
Since year 1999. LJP is a partner of Baltic Sea Youth Project. The aim of BSYP is to support the national training seminars in Eastern Europe and international training seminars in Baltic Sea region, for promoting the civil society and democracy.
