Jon is active in coordinating Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) activities in the Denver area, and plays a key role in Youth Services America's National Youth Council. As a strong supporter of youth, Jon believes in placing a strong emphasis on the amazing contributions that young people make to their communities. To that end, Jon has played a major role in planning previous GYSD events, including 2004's event that included then-Secretary of the Interior Gale Norton, and 2005’s event with 5 projects totaling more than 3,000 volunteers. Jon's current and recent youth-affairs involvement includes spearheading an initiative to establish a U.S. Youth Delegate to the United Nations, raising awareness of international affairs by serving on the United Nations Association - USA - Young Professionals for International Cooperation, and volunteering as a Youth Presenter at the regional Helping America's Youth conference (at the invitation of First Lady Laura Bush). Jonathan also served on the Steering committee for the 2006 National Service Learning Conference (NSLC), was an M.C. at the 2007 NSLC, and is a member of the Board of Directors for Youth Service America. Eliminating the twin scourges of poverty and hunger are high on Jon's agenda as well. The phrase "think globally, act locally" applies to Jon, as he's served as a committee chair for the Oxfam Hunger Banquet and also coordinates a group that volunteers monthly at the Agape Community Kitchen in Denver. In addition, Jon serves as a member of the ONE Campaign, to make poverty history. With plenty to keep him busy, Jon still makes it a priority to give one week of his time every year to an orphanage in Manzanillo, Mexico. Spending much of his childhood in a single-parent home, Jonathan found that every dollar counts. "You have to learn to stretch your resources, and make the best of every situation. I take great pleasure and pride in giving back to the community because I enjoyed the gifts that so many graciously gave to me. I strongly believe that I am Blessed to be a Blessing." In 2007 Jon furthered his career by acquiring his Colorado Real Estate Brokers license. For more information visit: www.realtytms.com or www.jonathanjonescole.com
