needs of others. These traits underpin my curiosity to identify parallels and discrepancies in the health and psychological functioning of individuals from various cultures and backgrounds. It is these two characteristics that drive me towards achieving my goal of providing aid to persons facing adversity both domestically and internationally. My volunteer and professional work in homeless shelters, rehabilitation centers, and hospitals has deepened my awareness of the dichotomy that exists between my own life and those of others. Pursuing my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology allows me to gain theoretical knowledge about the psychological functioning of human beings and practical experience in helping individuals overcome hardship. My current research project deals with the development of interventions for children who have experienced sexual abuse. It is dedicated to bridging the gap between theory and clinical practice and to increasing the coping ability of these individuals. Additionally, I provide individual and group counselling to clients dealing with psychopathology or hardship. My doctoral dissertation involves the development and implementation of efficacious treatment programs that will benefit children who have been sexually abused.
