About Me

Istar Ahmed is a social worker, social justice advocate, paralegal and a mediator in the area of community mediation and conflict resolution. She is dedicated her self to a variety of causes and issues affecting young people, such as youth engagement and leadership development through social change in central priorities.

Istar's record of involvement in the community and social service's sector is outstanding. She play significant role in development of innovative social programs and projects that addresses the community needs and promotes social inclusion.

As part of her community Action Report, she formed a voluntary local social justice organization to promote social change & Youth Engagement through youth leadership.

The outcome results from the above organization include Annual Youth Engagement Initiative (1st Annual Violence Prevention through training), 2nd Annual youth engagement 2005 (School based Youth Ambassadors for Peace Initiative), Social development through after-school program and drug prevention awareness and much more.

Istar contrributed to several conferences by giving a luctures and workshops in the area of Youth Engagement, Community Engagement through Community Development Principle and Migration/diasporas expereinces. Some of the events/conferences that she was invited include

1. Dialoge for Integration by the Ragional Goverment Immigration Diroctrate of Norway- Septemeber 2005)

2. Over Coming The Road-Blocks of Student Success: Workshop presented to Toronto District School Board- Professional Student Support Personell (Professional Development Day Feb 10, 2006)

Rotary Youth Leadership Award- Addressing the importance of Youth Engagement through Training Development

COMMUNITY & VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT
Istar is member of Rotary International and is an active local Rotarian with Rotary Club of Etobicoke, Co-founder of the International Youth Ambassadors for Peace Project, Volunteer community mediator with Etobicoke Conflict Mediation of Etobicoke, School Council Community Representative

She is passionate about issues facing youth and women locally and internationally, such as human rights issues facing women and children/youth, social in-equalities, oppression and the lack of youth and women involvement in decision making.
