Iktimal is also a member of the NSW Premier’s Council for Women, Australia’s National Commission for United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation’s Youth Network and a board member of Arab Council Australia. She is also a member of the Australian Alawy Muslim Association and the NSW Youth Alcohol Action Plan Advisory Committee. From 2004 until 2005 Iktimal served as the Deputy Chair, NSW Youth Advisory Council, Chair of the NSW Youth Week Advisory Committee and was the young member for NSW on the National Planning Group for Youth Week 2005. Iktimal is also a former member of the Management Committee of the Bankstown Police and Community Youth Club, National Youth Roundtable, NSW Commission for Children and Young People Youth Reference Group and represented Australia at an international leadership conference in the USA and Canada in 2000 which was run by the Australian Professional Association of Student Teacher Advisor’s. Iktimal has received an array of awards commending her dedicated work to the community including the Order of Australia Award for Community Service, Australian Young Arabic Women of the Year, Community Service Award from the Australian Lebanese Association, Bankstown Young Citizen of the Year as well NSW State PCYC Youth of the Year and Bankstown Young Lions Youth of the Year. Iktimal currently studies Social Science/Public Policy part-time as an external student at the University of New England whilst working full-time as a Project Officer within the NSW Department of Corrective Services. |
