 About Me |
Danny Lurie was born in Johannesburg in 1976 and grew up on a farm in Mpumalanga, South Africa. He obtained his degree in Dramatic Arts from the African college of Film, Television and Drama in 2000 and worked in the advertising and film industry as a screenwriter, actor and producer.
Disgruntled at the pace of transformation and justice in South Africa, Danny conceptualized and founded the Hillside Digital Trust, which aims to dramatically increase social change, service delivery and good governance in Africa’s poorest communities through training its youth in video citizen journalism and community activism. He is on the board of an orphanage in Alexandra Township and has been an active supporter and coordinator of Dramatic Need in South Africa. Danny currently represents Africa’s NGO sector on an international working group for the Global Reporting Institute, formulating policy and guidelines on sustainability reporting for the events sector (ie. Olympics, FIFA World Cup to exhibitions and local arts festivals).
