The last bit is the easy bit, young people are out there and we want to get involved and make a difference! The first bit is about changing attitudes and that's a lot, lot harder. It's like trying to turn round on of those giant oil tankers, only in our case it takes the organisation 10 years to turn round. We're getting there. Slowly. Prior to this I was a community worker for a regeneration and environmental charity, supporting community groups, doing some capacity building, community consultations and organising community events and volunteering sessions. I have been a volunteer leader with Girlguiding UK, and did lots of other stuff for them and sort of felt like they ought to be paying me! Although I really enjoyed it. I have moved for my new job, so I won't be able to do as much as I was before. Also volunteer for a local Agenda 21 group, maintaining a web page database and discussion group to network international development organisations in my local area. (www.action21.co.uk/local2global) Have also worked in environment and heritage education, and taught English to speakers of other languages. Degree no. 1 was Archaeology. Degree no. 2 was Environment, Culture and Society (go on, ask me what 'sustainable development' means, I dare you! ;)) Interested in sustainable development (ahem!), environmental inequality, informal education, social history, environmental education, volunteering (particularly young people, yes, that's I'm talking about) and everything else as well. And I sometimes get some sleep...
