Sangeet Bhullar is the founder and director of WISE KIDS, a non-profit organisation promoting Innovative, Positive and Safe Internet use, based in Wales in the UK [http://www.wisekids.org.uk].
Sangeet believes that effective use of ICT can empower and transform the lives of young and old alike. She also believes that young and old alike need the knowledge, skills and confidence to become Internet Proficient. She believes Internet safety awareness skills are necessary because there are many issues that new Internet users should be made aware of like managing their privacy, identity and data online. Other issues of importance include recognising and managing esecurity issues, inaccurate/dangerous online content, inappropriate online contact, deceptive marketing practices, cyberbullying and more. Some of these issues are particularly pertinent to younger Internet users. However the Internet and Digital technologies offer vital and wonderful opportunities to connect people to other people, networks, knowledge, tools and services. These technologies also provide new ways to engage with non ICT aware communities and provide them with quick-to-see benefits. This will aid in bridging the digital divide and overcoming social exclusion.
Sangeet believes that by promoting a core set of Internet/Digital Competencies, we can help individuals promote better learning, teaching, collaboration and content/service creation. When she is not busy with her family, she loves reading, writing, walking and poetry.
