Biography of Harry Gbetuwa Sierra Leone
My name is Harry Gbetuwa . I grew up in the northern head quarter town of Makeni, Sierra Leone where I went to primary and junior secondary school. But as a result of the war in Sierra Leone, the provinces were fairly insecure, hence, my family and I moved to the capital city Freetown where I enrolled in Senior Secondary school level at a school called Saint Augustine’s Secondary school Lungi and later to Saint Edwards Secondary School Freetown. This was 199-2001 to 2002-2003 respectively. Presently I am a student at Njala University College studding B A Edu. Linguistics/Literature. In 1996-1998 I served the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society as Volunteer where I performed First Aid assistance to war victims when the war intensify my country.. 2001, I was amongst the founding members of a child advocacy organization called the Children’s Forum Network (CFN). July –September 2003 I interned as public Information Assistance with UNHCR, Kenema, Sierra Leone where I was working in eight refugee camps an approximate number of over fifty seven thousand Liberian refugees. Since November 2002 I am also involved in a project called the Voice of Children where I am working as a reporter, researcher, producer and assist in the co-ordination and administrative activities of the project. I am one of those the United Nations Ambassador Olara Otunnu Special Representative of the Secretary General for Children and Armed Conflict called the `Pioneers` of the Voice of Children project as I was there when it all started. This project is the first of its kind in the world. Since 2003 I have also involved with an organization called Miracle Corners of the World (MCW) a non profit organization based in New York this organization promotes Youth Entrepreneurship for the sustainability of young people around the globe I am presently working with them as programme co-coordinator in Sierra Leone. This involvement takes pretty much of my time but I really don’t mind as I enjoy working with children and young people. But when I am not involved in all this of my countless activities I enjoy listening to good music and reading a good book.
